Full sun to medium shade; medium to moderately dry moisture level; found on bare soil, rotten wood and rarely on rocks; prefers a more alkaline substrate but will tolerate most any soil pH.  .4 to .6 inches in height.

Description:  A very versatile small moss that forms erect, dense tufts.  Forms crowded clumps of leaves at upper ends of the stems.  Tolerates direct sunlight and some foot traffic in the wild.  If located in full sun without watering, it will turn brown and dry out until water returns.  Brilliant emerald green when damp.  Can be used between stones in walkways or in a sunny garden.  Found worldwide.
