Round-lobed Liverleaf

Round-lobed Liverleaf

Hepatica americana

Morning sun in spring with full shade in summer, medium moisture level, rich organic soil, moderately acid pH.  6-8 inches height, blooms in early spring, blue to lavender to white flowers.

Germination Code: ?

Native Region:  East Tennessee and lightly on the Highland Rim in Middle Tennessee

Best naturalized in large sweeps in a woodland garden.  New leaves do not appear until flowers have finished blooming.  In autumn, leaves turn shades of russet and purple and persist through winter because the plant continues to use them as a source of nourishment, so do not remove old leaves.
