Part to full shade, moderately wet to medium moisture level, rich loamy soil with decaying leaves, circumneutral pH. 1-1 ½ feet height, blooms late spring into early summer, purple flowers, spreads by rhizomes.

Designated a “Threatened Species” in Tennessee. Low maintenance groundcover for wooded areas. Attractive flowers and foliage. Can be an aggressive grower in its preferred setting and may form large colonies. Attracts bees.
