Spring sun and then part shade to full shade in summer, medium to moderately dry moisture level, sandy soil, moderately acid to neutral pH.  4-6 inches height, blooms in spring, light blue to violet flowers, spreads slowly by rhizomes.

Intensely fragrant flowers on one of the smallest of the native irises.  Blooms appear in early spring before leaf growth starts.  Usually found in open, dry pine forests.  Challenging iris to grow; likes loose soil with plenty of sand or gravel but little organic matter.
