Carpet Moss, Lipstick Thyme Moss, Horn Calcareous Moss Mnium hornum Part to full shade; moderately wet to medium moisture level; will grow on most any surface or soil as long as it is moist; acidic pH.  .75 to 2 inches height. Native Region:  Listed by the Tennessee Herbarium as native to Tennessee with no listing by county Description:  One of our most common mosses.  It is easily recognized by its distinctly double-toothed leaf margins.  Lush green with bright green new growth in spring.  Leaves are green, yellowish green or dark green and densely hairy.  Stems are red or brown.  Preferred setting is damp woodlands on logs, rocks and soil and along side streambeds.
