Longleaf Summer Bluet, Pale Bluets

Houstonia longifolia

Full to part sun, medium to dry moisture level, sandy or gravelly soil, pH ?.  6-12 inches height, blooms in summer, pale pink to blue  to white flowers.

Germination Code:  A and D

Native Region:  Primarily in Blue Ridge and the Ridge and Valley Provinces and very lightly elsewhere.

Dainty, tubular flowers.  Not difficult to grow but is not competitive with larger surrounding plant species.  Prefers rather sterile soil.  Found naturally in disturbed habitats, river or stream floodplains, fields, ridges, and rock outcroppings.  Attracts many species of bees, and leaves are food for some moth caterpillars.
