Early Meadow Rue

Early Meadow Rue

Thalictrum dioicum

Part to full shade, moderately wet to moderately dry moisture level, humusy rich soil.  12-30 inches height, blooms in spring, greenish-white flowers.

Germination Code:  C(60).  Germination may be erratic even under good conditions.

Native Region:  Middle and East Tennessee

Although considered a woodland plant requiring rich moist soil, it does best with a little sunlight and can tolerate clay soil.  Often grown just for its ferny foliage.  Provides good early spring color.  Gray green foliage is an attractive complement to perennials blooming late in the wildflower garden.  It typically grows in colonies, and only male plants reproduce asexually by stolons.  Male flowers are showier than female flowers.
