One of the tallest goldenrod species, hence its common name. Produces masses of small, dark yellow, plume-like flowers.
Can become weedy and form dense colonies. Produces allelopathic compounds that suppress the growth of surrounding plants.
Although commercially available, it is best reserved for problem areas where there is room for it to spread. Generally found on drier soils, prairies and other grasslands, old fields, thickets, roadsides, and forest openings. Attracts birds and many types of bees, butterflies, and beetles.
