Full to part sun, moderately wet to medium moisture level, prefers rich loamy soil but tolerates average, acidic to alkaline pH but prefers neutral.  3-6 feet height, purple to white flowers.

Showy flowers but male plants have showier flowers than female plants.  Good background plant.  Intolerant of hot, humid conditions. Plants grown in full sun require more moisture. Attracts few insects because female flowers lack nectar.
