I’d love to have resources on the best grass seeds to use in the area for a yard. I used to live in Austin TX and we could by native grass seeds that were untreated to use for our yard there. I haven’t yet found anything similar here. Even just info on which commercial variety is best adapted to Knoxville area would be great…

I planted several grasses last fall in an area that had fescue grass prior. The grasses & sedges seem to be coming in (sesleria autumnalis, prairie dropseed, sporobolus heterolepsis and panicum shenandoah) but the fescue also seems to be coming back. Any hints on how to identify them? Obviously, these grasses aren’t full size yet, so don’t look like the pictures I see on the internet. I think I need to weed out to protect the grasses and prairie flowers that I planted with them. Advice is appreciated! I’m in Mid TN – zone 7A

Identifying young grasses is way beyond my skill level. I wish I could help. I would suggest that you contact your local county extension agent and see if that person can help. Best of luck.
