Full shade, moderately wet to moderately dry moisture level, prefers rich soil, neutral pH.  4-6 inches height, blooms in spring, brown flowers, spreads by rhizomes and self-sows readily.

Low, colony-forming perennial with velvety heart-shaped leaves.  Can create a dense groundcover.  Flower is a cup-shaped calyx with brownish, purple lobes that attract insects.
