Full sun; wet to medium moisture level; prefers fertile soil, tolerates poor soil but not rocky; slightly acid to neutral pH.  2-5 ft. height, blooms mid to late summer, purple flowers, re-seeds slowly.

Germination Code:  C(60)   Slow to establish from seed.

Native Region:  Statewide

Easy to grow.  Generally performs better in moist soils than most other species of Liatris.  Intolerant of wet soil in winter.  ‘Kobold’ is a popular compact cultivar that is less likely to need staking.  Attracts butterflies and birds, including hummingbirds.
